چکیده
Abstract This study explores the food plant spectrum of sugar beet weevil ( Asproparthenis punctiventris Germar; Coleoptera: Curculionidae), one most important pests Beta vulgaris subsp. Altissima group). It examines potential various weeds and other plants to maintain populations A. adults larvae outside fields. To this end, leaf consumption females males on twelve Amaranthaceae six Polygonaceae species was compared over a 24-h period in laboratory environment. Both sexes consumed greatest amount mass from spp. average about third less Atriplex spp., indicating that these have highest nutritional value for . Weevils between 30 60% retroflexus Chenopodium than they fed leaves. Like Spinacia oleracea (Amaranthaceae), family were hardly or not at all on. Mated generally more unmated, especially , i.e. with low feeding value. Experiments potted revealed heaviest 4th instar developed beet, while fewer individuals lesser weight found B. maritima hortensis Very few able develop C. album none prevent promotion pest population, special attention should be paid control growing areas.

Area-wide mass trapping by pheromone-based attractants for the control of sugar beet weevil (Bothynoderes punctiventris Germar, Coleoptera: Curculionidae).
BACKGROUND Owing to the changing climate, narrow crop rotation, and changes in insecticide application practice, sugar beet weevil (SBW) (Bothynoderes punctiventris Germar) has become the most important economic pest in sugar beet. To develop alternative control methods, an area-wide (AW) control program using aggregation pheromones was implemented over 4 years on an area of 6 and 14.8 km2 in e...
متن کاملThe investigating of sodium accumulation in some halophytic species of Zygophyllaceae, Polygonaceae, Asteraceae and Amaranthaceae
The identification of the characteristics of native halophytic species is very important for their practical application. The present study was carried out to identify the halophytic species of a desert and highly saline region around the city of Khosf, southern Khorasan Province, and to detect their general tolerance mechanisms (i.e. salt exclusion or inclusion). Sodium accumulation in the roo...

Systematics of the weevil genus Mecinus Germar, 1821 (Coleoptera: Curculionidae). I. Taxonomic treatment of the species.
Palaearctic species of the weevil genus Mecinus Germar, 1821 are revised. A total of 47 species are recognized, one of which, M. baridioides sp. n. is new to science. Mecinus dorsalis var. tavaresi Hoffmann, 1958 (stat. rev.) is considered as a distinct species, whereas M. alboscutellatus var. atratulus (Solari, 1933) is maintained as a subspecies of M. alboscutellatus (Hustache, 1913). The fol...
متن کاملABA Uptake in Source and Sink Tissues of Sugar Beet.
The mode of abscisic acid (ABA) uptake was studied in excised leaf and root tissue discs of sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.). Discs were incubated in buffered medium that contained 1 mm CaCl(2) and [(14)C]ABA. The sensitivity of ABA uptake to metabolic inhibitors and temperature indicated that the ABA transport system had an energy-dependent component. Energy-dependent uptake was greater in leaf t...
